Case Study - YWCA of NYC + YWCA of White Plains

THE CHALLENGE

According to a study by the Girl Scouts, only 25% of girls say they have access to the career development opportunities they need. This lack of access can hinder their ability to explore different careers and gain the skills they need to succeed in the workforce.

The YWCA, a national non-profit organization dedicated to advancing opportunities for women and girls, embarked on a year-long professional development program designed to support post-high school and college pathways. The program aimed to equip young women with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen careers.

One of the challenges the YWCA faced was how to support the expansion of the program with a direct focus on career readiness and exploration. The organization recognized the need to provide young women with the tools they need to succeed in today's workforce, which includes career exploration, job search strategies, and interviewing skills.

THE SOLUTION

the YWCA partnered with Reimagine Talent, a leading vendor in professional development. The workforce consulting team at Reimagine Talent delivered the Jumpstart to Career Program™, which aimed to equip young women with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen careers. The program focused on career readiness and exploration, and included sessions on resume building, interview preparation, and networking.

THE TRANSFORMATION

Through the Jumpstart to Career Program™, Reimagine Talent was able to reach 50 high school girls across two New York sites. The program provided these young women with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their chosen careers, helping to bridge the gap between education and the workforce. By partnering with the YWCA, Reimagine Talent was able to help support the organization's mission of advancing opportunities for women and girls, and help transform the lives of these young women by setting them on a path to success.

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ABOUT OUR WORK TOGETHER

“Our thoughts become our words. Our words become our actions. Our actions become our habits. Our habits become our character. Our character becomes our destiny.”

This reminds me of the inspiring career development program Reimagine Talent administered last year at YWCA White Plains.

Everything in this quote is a testament to the lessons and information shared with our future leaders.  It echoed the information and nuggets that were shared and discussed weekly with our participants to make college & career possible. The information was clearly communicated and kept the group engaged, all while being virtual.

The most important part of the program was the feedback from the participants who stated, "We can't wait to do this in-person". Many of our participants will be first-time college students to parents who may (or may not) have graduated college..

Thank you, for the work that you do and the belief of continuing our motto, “Fearless Alone, Strong Together, and Empowering Women.”
